On the 13th December 2014, Light and Love Charity together with a group of youth volunteers supported by the National University of Singapore (NUS)’s Community Engagement Fund co-organised “Christmas Fun Fun Fun”, a Christmas carnival for the elderly at Block 318A at the Yuhua neighbourhood. There was an estimated number of 64 elderly who took part in the carnival while there were over 50 volunteers from Light and Love Charity.
The carnival included performances from the NUS Harmonica club and a Trio from the NUS Nursing faculty, while there were also many stall games and also health booths where Nursing students from NUS provided much needed guidance and advice to our elderly beneficiaries.
With the support of funding from NUS, the committee was also able to come up with several novel and interesting segments to the event, such as a Popcorn machine and also a “Photo booth” where elderly can take photographs with our volunteers and Santa Claus before collecting the photograph before the event ends. Aini, who was in charge of the “Photo booth” enjoyed herself while photographing the elderly, noticing that many “are shy to take photos” but managed to open up after posing with Santa Claus and volunteers. One can really sense the joy of the elderly from the photos taken!!!
