In June 2011, a group of Junior College students from River Valley High School and Light and Love Charity Volunteers participated in an Overseas Community Involvement Project in Batam, Indonesia. The students and volunteers conducted a stationery and toys donation drive in Singapore where they collected stationery and toys suitable for children before bringing them over to Batam, Indonesia.
The students and volunteers visited needy families in Batam and gave out the stationery and toys; they also played simple games with the children in the village. The project was very well received by the villagers and it broadened the perspectives of all the participants. The students were inspired and greatly encouraged that their act of service could bring joy to the children, as evident on the smile on their faces.
